Gotta love several years ago, Alicia said she didn't want any white people at her performances. Sad to say, thats the only people buying her damn tickets, not to mention, this rendition of the Moonlight sonata is terrible. Beethoven is rolling in his grave as she plays it.

I'm seeing folks unhappy with the conductor making a meal of this piece, but he is coaxing the most emotional interpretation possible from Alicia (and the audience who may not be classical music fans) and to do that you sometimes have to make exaggerated gestures. He got the job done and evoked an emotional response and that's what Beethoven was all about, getting a rise out of people. This was great.

They could have recruited a professional classical pianist to perform this movement fully to pay due respect to the families and also to not ruin the hell out of such a masterpiece using bullshit background music. This whole group of "musicians" obliterated this piece, period.

@Relaxm8 Before you say anything else, analyze for me the 2nd movement of the same sonata, just a checkup to see if you know anything at all about classical music in general.

Πριν ημέρα
John M
John M

@Relaxm8 Wow, here i am talking about *MUSIC* and here you are talking about *MY WAY OF TALKING*, huge information diff not gonna lie. Composers can do whatever they want with their music, *BUT* people who attempt to interpret must follow some rules not *ALL* of them, but when you ignore *BASIC* theme rules of any song while performing your interpretation is just *BAD* not creative, *BAD*. Sheet music is written for a reason, people spend time to analyze and evolve the dynamics, complexity and musicality for a reason. When Rachmaninoff performed, most of the times he followed note to note the sheet music. This piece *CAN* be changed for performing reasons but you mustn't change the theme of it, if the theme doesn't fit don't play it. FYI i'm in music uni atm, we learn to examine music way before uni time, we don't need anyone's opinion and we don't use anyone's opinion as a point. Random notes doesn't exist in classical music, everything happens for a reason, "Atonal" as you said above is a music theory term we use when we wanna place a note somewhere it doesn't belong to, we use this (for example) to create tension because, it doesn't belong to the corresponding scale we are at a specific moment. Music that doesn't make sense in any way, it is not music, it's just random pitched sound waves, nothing more, nothing less.

John M lol listen to yourself massage your own ego just to try and prove an insignificant point to myself who couldn’t care less. Im very impressed you can break down the structures and melodies of nearly 200 year old songs wow who else has done that. Sorry was my terminology not what mummy told you or did you find yours written up your teachers rear end where you seemed to have spent a lot of time. I was obviously referring to your comment about random notes not constituting music which was wrong but rather than address that you would attack my terms because you know you’re wrong. Just because she doesn’t play it perfectly within the tight constraints of the score doesn’t mean she ruined it even Rachmaninoff would rarely stick perfectly to his scores would you say he ruined his own music? Just because you studied your whole life doesn’t make your point correct or give you the right to dismiss others. Her intention was obviously never to play perfectly in the original style as this was just Kobes version that he played to his wife used in memorial to a dead father and daughter but you are such a pathetic elitist snob that you care more about the rules of a genre of music and massaging your own ego than respecting human life i feel sorry for you. What’s funny is music is made to be enjoyed by everyone but snobs like you would rather learn as much as you can so you can meet others who did the same and pretend that you can appreciate it more than everyone else. Have fun with your sad life 👋

Πριν ημέρα

@Relaxm8 For example Chopin's op 25 no 5 Etude "Wrong Note" even though middle voice is played in 2ths lyrically it's atonal, but makes sense since the scale and theme support it perfectly.
