GN Special Report: AMD Moves 93% of CPU Sales (Intel vs. AMD 2019 for DIY)

AMD doesn't hold majority marketshare, but it is doing significantly more sales volume per month than Intel to our DIY / enthusiast audience.
Sponsor: be quiet! Straight Power 11 PSU on Amazon (geni.us/ApeCdnf)
    Article: www.gamersnexus.net/guides/3542-gn-special-report-intel-vs-amd-sales-volume
In this report, we're looking at AMD and Intel CPU sales in the DIY enthusiast market by analyzing affiliate sales data for GamersNexus viewers and readers. As described in the video, the nature of such data is that it will be skewed toward an enthusiast audience and toward our recommendations, but we still have enough data to extrapolate an overall trend in the enthusiast segment. Intel still holds majority marketshare, but that doesn't keep a company alive in a segment -- it needs active, fresh sales for cashflow, since old CPU sales don't generate new money (at least, not outside of Enterprise). AMD has moved toward 93% total CPU sales per month in our latest data for November of 2019, leaving Intel with the remaining 7%. We'll look at this plot, average selling price, CPU series by popularity, and more in today's content.

The main reason people were still buying the 3600X instead of the 3600 is because the 3600X was only $5 to $10 more than the 3600 during the Black Friday/Cyber Monday sale or they just plain didn't do their research on the two chips.

Unrelated to the video, but i would really like someone with your knowledge to tackle the bizarre fps issue in halo reach and if theres a way to fix it without a game update and perhaps and explanation of what's actually going on? Doesn't matter what refresh rate or framerate you play at, the game feels like its forever stuck at 60fps, and you seem like the man most qualified out of the tech youtubers i watch to break this down. Just a simple request of a fan, i can understand completely if you don't have the time/wish to do soemthing like that. Keep up the great content my man!

FYI, My decision to buy a 3600 (non X) was cemented by Gamers Nexus, and AMD choosing a large (at the time) price difference between the 3600 and the 3600X. This replaced a 2700X, and I am very happy with the decision to upgrade, the 3600MHz RAM support also makes a real-world difference for me who simply needs a "nippier" system and not an insane amount of threads, and of course the 3600 is fantastic value in its segment. When it comes to 4K gaming, the Intel clock frequency advantage vanishes with the 3600 for real-world gaming at 4K without selling a kidney for a GTX 8000 Super XXX Mega GPU.!

I think Intel issue is actually not production, it may be even artificial. My personal guess (pure guess, no support material) is AMD TR completely throw Intel off course with general availability of 16/32 cores cpus. Intel don't have, or don't know how to answer to it. Intel always reserve high core count for server cpu(xeons) as a differentiation for pricing. With AMD making these high core counts available for mass markets, Intel long term strategy break down. Its cpu no longer justify the pricing in both low end and high end segments, and equally worse, the chip set tie up also breaking down as AMD do away completely.

Also, many data centers are swapping out Intel server CPU's for EPYC. Once the current server's end of life and or depreciation is up the are putting in AMD CPU'S for replacements. AMAZON for one is doing this big time. Intel is doing everything they can to keep that fact from the public as much as it can with disinformation, for fear of falling stock price.

Good for amd, but when they can make a cpu that is at the top of the benchmark lists for gaming fps then they can gloat, people who want fps dont care how much it costs and im sick of amd fanbois whinging about price. If an intel chip is 10k and is at the top of the list then 10k i will pay same would go for an amd chip if it was top of the gaming fps list. Why price bothers people is beyond me.

Its not just about ability or money it's about intels ideology. I haven't bought Intel for nearly 20 years. The writing on the wall for me was with the launch of 64bit where AMD was leading the charge and Intel sat there laughing with comments along the lines of how stupid it was to put 64bit into home PC's which was power they didn't need and should be kept to servers and data centres. While Intel may have had performance advantages in that time AMD have always delivered more performance per pound than Intel. AMD struggled in the mid term but again were leading the way in graphics integration by bringing Radion in house and providing new ideas to battle against Intel's insistance on stagnation and artificial tech bottlenecking. I will never buy Intel again no matter what they bring to the table, they had a dominant position and only used it to screw over its customer base for the most profit.

Interesting. I've just bought an R5 3600 to replace my aging i5 4460, along with an RX 580 two weeks ago because I was living off of the i5's HD Graphics 4600 for the last years. I gotta say, just by installing this GPU alone, I can already run almost everything at 1080p and above 60FPS (couldn't run any games at 1080p even on the lowest settings before) with just my CPU and RAM clock (800mhz) holding things back.

Amazing data and presentation. Thanks. I'm really enthused about ryzen and the future of AMD for the first time basically ever, as I entered the scene during the FX years. That said, as the only strenuous pc task I do is play demanding games and VR, I still cant quite commit to the platform switch. The i7 is still the king of gaming, unfortunately, but I suspect ryzen 3 may change that next year.

I am guilty of buying a 3800x, and that was after watching your videos saying it wasn't a good value. But in the end I decided it was worth it to me to buy the higher binned chip for an extra 75 bucks even if it is only going to yield a little bit more performance because I thought it would be more fun to push that chip to its limits since it really appeared to be the fastest offering from AMD at the time (pre-3950x). I also plan to eventually add an open loop water cooling system to the computer, now talk about poor value to performance boost! I guess when you start to push into the enthusiast segment value kind of becomes secondary to performance. All that being said, I really appreciate GNs advice when it comes to value and the biggest bang for your buck, because I have definitely been using that info for other PCs that I have built for people that are operating more in that maximum price to performance arena.
