AMD doesn't hold majority marketshare, but it is doing significantly more sales volume per month than Intel to our DIY / enthusiast audience.
Sponsor: be quiet! Straight Power 11 PSU on Amazon (geni.us/ApeCdnf)
    Article: www.gamersnexus.net/guides/3542-gn-special-report-intel-vs-amd-sales-volume
In this report, we're looking at AMD and Intel CPU sales in the DIY enthusiast market by analyzing affiliate sales data for GamersNexus viewers and readers. As described in the video, the nature of such data is that it will be skewed toward an enthusiast audience and toward our recommendations, but we still have enough data to extrapolate an overall trend in the enthusiast segment. Intel still holds majority marketshare, but that doesn't keep a company alive in a segment -- it needs active, fresh sales for cashflow, since old CPU sales don't generate new money (at least, not outside of Enterprise). AMD has moved toward 93% total CPU sales per month in our latest data for November of 2019, leaving Intel with the remaining 7%. We'll look at this plot, average selling price, CPU series by popularity, and more in today's content.

The main reason people were still buying the 3600X instead of the 3600 is because the 3600X was only $5 to $10 more than the 3600 during the Black Friday/Cyber Monday sale or they just plain didn't do their research on the two chips.

Unrelated to the video, but i would really like someone with your knowledge to tackle the bizarre fps issue in halo reach and if theres a way to fix it without a game update and perhaps and explanation of what's actually going on? Doesn't matter what refresh rate or framerate you play at, the game feels like its forever stuck at 60fps, and you seem like the man most qualified out of the tech youtubers i watch to break this down. Just a simple request of a fan, i can understand completely if you don't have the time/wish to do soemthing like that. Keep up the great content my man!

FYI, My decision to buy a 3600 (non X) was cemented by Gamers Nexus, and AMD choosing a large (at the time) price difference between the 3600 and the 3600X. This replaced a 2700X, and I am very happy with the decision to upgrade, the 3600MHz RAM support also makes a real-world difference for me who simply needs a "nippier" system and not an insane amount of threads, and of course the 3600 is fantastic value in its segment. When it comes to 4K gaming, the Intel clock frequency advantage vanishes with the 3600 for real-world gaming at 4K without selling a kidney for a GTX 8000 Super XXX Mega GPU.!

I'm goo-goo eyes for that 3900x We're not gamers, we're actually simulation enthusiasts deep down. We gonna need work station level graphics. Everything too expensive and equally gimped on dashboard controlled user shader loading or controls for that even. We're having to use third party for that these days. Paying for features that should have been standard decades ago. It's barbaric.

An interesting slide that you didnt include would have been the TOTAL sales for each company broken down across the years and the processor series It would be interesting to see how the AMD budget chips affects the total sales compared to intel with the 9900k series making up most of their sales as AMD could have 90% of the market but might only be generating 40% of the gross revenue from those sales due to lower and popular chips like the 2700x and 3600

That CPU sales graph was just totally sick lol Even Intel fanboys have to admit that AMD has turned the CPU market into something resembling the rocky films series :) There IS still some reason to buy intel though Some people are just too lazy to remove the "intel inside" sticker from their case and a small amount of those ALSO suffer from chronic OCD that means the sticker not being accurate would make them apoplectic, but for everyone else theres AMD products :D

With core count going up, VPS and cloud computing providers should skim down prices, or increase vCore count per node. We as consumers should benefit this, but it seems that 100% of the benefits are going to these 'providers'. Buy/Rent a dedicated server instead.

I think Intel issue is actually not production, it may be even artificial. My personal guess (pure guess, no support material) is AMD TR completely throw Intel off course with general availability of 16/32 cores cpus. Intel don't have, or don't know how to answer to it. Intel always reserve high core count for server cpu(xeons) as a differentiation for pricing. With AMD making these high core counts available for mass markets, Intel long term strategy break down. Its cpu no longer justify the pricing in both low end and high end segments, and equally worse, the chip set tie up also breaking down as AMD do away completely.

Also, many data centers are swapping out Intel server CPU's for EPYC. Once the current server's end of life and or depreciation is up the are putting in AMD CPU'S for replacements. AMAZON for one is doing this big time. Intel is doing everything they can to keep that fact from the public as much as it can with disinformation, for fear of falling stock price.

If an intel chip is 10k and is at the top of the list then 10k i will pay same would go for an amd chip if it was top of the gaming fps list. Why price bothers people is beyond me.

Its not just about ability or money it's about intels ideology. I haven't bought Intel for nearly 20 years. The writing on the wall for me was with the launch of 64bit where AMD was leading the charge and Intel sat there laughing with comments along the lines of how stupid it was to put 64bit into home PC's which was power they didn't need and should be kept to servers and data centres. While Intel may have had performance advantages in that time AMD have always delivered more performance per pound than Intel. AMD struggled in the mid term but again were leading the way in graphics integration by bringing Radion in house and providing new ideas to battle against Intel's insistance on stagnation and artificial tech bottlenecking. I will never buy Intel again no matter what they bring to the table, they had a dominant position and only used it to screw over its customer base for the most profit.

Interesting. I've just bought an R5 3600 to replace my aging i5 4460, along with an RX 580 two weeks ago because I was living off of the i5's HD Graphics 4600 for the last years. I gotta say, just by installing this GPU alone, I can already run almost everything at 1080p and above 60FPS (couldn't run any games at 1080p even on the lowest settings before) with just my CPU and RAM clock (800mhz) holding things back.

Amazing data and presentation. Thanks. I'm really enthused about ryzen and the future of AMD for the first time basically ever, as I entered the scene during the FX years. That said, as the only strenuous pc task I do is play demanding games and VR, I still cant quite commit to the platform switch. The i7 is still the king of gaming, unfortunately, but I suspect ryzen 3 may change that next year.

I am guilty of buying a 3800x, and that was after watching your videos saying it wasn't a good value. But in the end I decided it was worth it to me to buy the higher binned chip for an extra 75 bucks even if it is only going to yield a little bit more performance because I thought it would be more fun to push that chip to its limits since it really appeared to be the fastest offering from AMD at the time (pre-3950x). I also plan to eventually add an open loop water cooling system to the computer, now talk about poor value to performance boost! I guess when you start to push into the enthusiast segment value kind of becomes secondary to performance. All that being said, I really appreciate GNs advice when it comes to value and the biggest bang for your buck, because I have definitely been using that info for other PCs that I have built for people that are operating more in that maximum price to performance arena.

Inovation is realy not my concern because im not looking to fork over $1,000 for an overkill CPU just to have the latest and greatest ..i want something to run my stream and video editing projects for less, with maybe a little extra power...(much like 80-90%of the pc market)...and in that AMD blows intel out of the water

As long as we’re not still in that long stretch of no innovation, being sold 4c/8t parts. I hope amd and intel continue to have fierce competition as it helps all consumers. Regardless of what team you prefer, which should really not exist. performance for value is what matters. AMD would certainly do the exact thing intel did if no competition existed.

Lol okay bud. Tell me how a 3600X is better than a YEAR OLDER 9600K. If you are trying to play games, 6 cores are enough and the superior single core performance is greater, making it better for gaming. currently the Intel is cheaper too about 200 vs the 240 AMD. Everyone with a clue does their research and buys the best option for their budget and needs.

@postvideo97 First of all, when i bought my current Intel CPU AMD was still a turd. It wasn't cheap but i spent the money. If i paid too much it was MY fault. Everyone acts like they upgraded their Intel CPU every release. If they did and spent the money it was their fault. People today have a warped sense of how much money companies should make and how big they should become and not on the merit of hard work and business expertise. Successful Corporations get that way because they push every envelope including stretching the truth and shady business practices. Sometimes they push too far and go over the line. AMD seems like the good guy right now but i guaranty when they are backed against the wall they will push the limit as well.

@wysetech2000 Well you can like a company for their ethics, or you can like a product. But intel shills were bashing Ryzen just because it was AMD, but yea serves them right to have bought a 4-core that is slow instead of a good 8-core cpu for the same price.

There are many Intel users, again like myself who don't watch these videos anymore.and have left these biased channels and unsubbed. I hope the creators wake up to this. Soon you assholes can fight and argue about who has the best AMD CPU. Have fun!

@segaprophet so what? with still 4 cores only? LOL And I heard reports of them making 6 cores... so what? If it's still only 35 watts it's not gonna beat even the current i7, not to mention that Intel will release 6 core\12 thread i5-s to laptops next year so... Ryzen mobile will still only be on the level of i5-s lol, maybe even slower due to i5-s being undervoltable and having higher TDP.

Calm down people. This has happened before. I went from Intel to AMD and back again as the performance crown shifted. However, with today's tech being easily fast enough already, I haven't gone with AMD simply because my current setup does everything I need, as fast as I need it to be. We've reached a saturation point where more speed really does not do much except for some very niche tasks. Nevertheless, AMD will lose their crown to Intel or perhaps another, unknown competitor in the not so distant future. It's good for us and good for competition. Be happy for that, but don't act as if this is the beginning of AMD's perpetual domination of the market. They had it once and lost it, as they will again.

I'm planning on buying a r5 2600 myself. In my case, the 3600 costs 2x as much but I highly doubt it's 2x better performing. Upgrading from an FX8350 which served me well to this day.

I will say i've seen large uptick in buyers ASKING me about Ryzen, the brand is at least getting mainstream recognition, due mostly to the coverage of it's roll outs I would imagine. That doesn't always equate to a sale, but it is a huge change from the AM3 era of AMD, where they didn't even know AMD was an option most of the time. That's just my personal data, so anecdotal, but still.

Majority of your audience is poor or stupid. They all just play games and cum at rendering and compression benchmarks. People holding on to something like i7 Haswell paired with 1080/1080Ti (because they can afford it due to not buying intel or amd platform to be "hip" ) are doing much better than amd 2600 or intel coffee lake platforms with 1060/ rx 580.

Not surprising. I'm not a fanboy of either I own Intel and AMD processors over the years and from a price-to-performance perspective the Ryzen was just the clear and obvious choice. At the time Intel still had a lead in raw performance but the price difference didn't make it worthwhile at all. A year on now and I have no regrets, my R5 2600 is still going strong.

But, but, we are doing sooooooooo good that we can't even keep up with demand. Intel just got fucked because they had to sell larger silicon without a shrink. Running out of wafer capacity. A doubling of silicon size, going from 4 to 8 cores or 2 to 4, results in a 66% decrease in the amounts of chips that come out a wafer. The whole square peg and round hole problem. Once they go to 10nm or 7nm on chiplets they will have huge over capacity and will have to cut fabs for sure. Intels troubles are far from over.

I love your channel. I love how informative it is and how you don't talk very slow like many other YouTube channels out there these days. The current trend seems to be talking in a manner like their target demographic are special needs people or sth. I would like to offer a suggestion if I may which I think will make your channel much more enjoyable. I hope you won't take it the wrong way but you don't seem to have much fine control over your voice. It comes off as a bit nasal, a bit harsh, a bit strained (high pitched) and kinda sounds like it's being thrown out. This cannot be good for your breathing or vocal cords either. I'm not sure if there are any problems with your mic or other audio input recording equipment. Your vocal tone is also a bit monotonous. When it gets high pitched it conveys annoyance more than excitement. I know you're not stuck in a limbo between boredom and annoyance. I know you are excited and so am I. But the voice doesn't come off as such. You may be tired from all the work you do to put up one of your excellent videos together. So I have a suggestion that will bring health benefit to you and joy to all your listeners out there. I think maybe you can drink a cup of nice hot tea or coffee before you start recording, control your vocal tone to be moderately calm, try not to throw words out there like shovelling dirt, rather, speak firmly with deliberate intent as you always do. When you shift vocal tone or speed try not to speak from your mouth or nose but rather from your gut (stomach), this will make it seem less nasal. These are my suggestions for making your videos twice as much as more enjoyable for me and others like me. I'm not sure if anyone has given you this feedback before. Again, no offense or complaint, just humble 2 cents. Big fan. Thanks for all the work you put in.
