Well, I was just trying to get an antenna for my TV that would get the most channels. There's no test at the end of this chapter, just free over the air tv. I guess this was just more detail than I was looking for. Thanks anyway

"antennas" don't work well for radio, however, they do work well for insects. Aerials do work well for radio & TV though.

This has been very educational, excellent vid, thanks for sharing. I would also love to see a vid on radiation from high voltage power lines and in house power cables 50/60Hz inside houses. How can this be minimized and how exactly do the electric and magnetic fields look like in case of such power lines/cables. Cheers!

On a mobile 2 way radio there is an antenna that isn't attached unlike handheld. Does changing only the antenna change the signal from vhf to uhf? or do I need a mobile unit that claims to does both first but only when paired with an antenna that does both or the type you chose to use.

It is a electromagnetic field. It is not a magnetic field. The magnetic field will be way to weak. It needs to travel. By varying electic and magnic field it travels at light speed

Thank you. Now I understand! But As an RC car hobbyist, I don't understand how the polarization issue doesn't mess up the signal. For example, all RC car hobbyists recommend laying the receiver antenna INSIDE the car, even if there's a hole on the rc body for the antenna to stick out of. Indeed, at the power levels and speeds RC's travel, if the wire is sticking out it will be split in half when the car goes flipping at 40 MPH, lol. So, if the antenna is inside the body, it is horizontal. But the controller antenna is vertical for the most part. (2.4 GHz.) Nevertheless, I've got plenty of range for the signal. Theoretically, the receiver shouldn't pick up much signal at all. So how do you explain that I almost always have plenty of range, as I'm sure the transmitter is putting out very low power - not even near a handheld ham radio?

Great presentation. However, within the first 30 seconds I already had a difficult time understanding your speech as it was too quick for American ears given your thicker British accent. Also, when you are facing the whiteboard, you need to speak louder as the sound waves are directed away from the microphone. Just something to take into consideration when doing future videos.

I have a question for people who really know something about antennas, especially mobile phone antennas. They're small, light weight (?) and the range is quite good. Why don't we use it in rc stuff?

i developed an antenna on accident i took a coax cable and striped it at the proper length and pulled the sheild back over the wire then i coiled it 3 times so that the length i stripped it at was the circumference making one loop of the core one loop of the shield and one of typical coax and as i know and knew the third loop was superfluous it helped now i made this trying to get a car stereo to recive my favorite station as best as possible and i originally made a 1/4 wave di-pole and recived a shit signal i coiled it up being ocd in my own special way as i did so that each pole fomed its own loop just to be simplert to handle and oddly enough when i tried it like that i went from between static and mono to an amazing signal so i made one for my grandads tv and he mostly watches one channel and same thing from spotty signal to the best picture hes gotten id like to understand more about what i did and how to make it better also why when i tried running the antenna through an amp it sucked was it the filtering should i do a high and low pass filter and also after watching your video what about a dorr spring or similar coupled with a dish

He is god! As he also explains that most antenna's are simply rubbish but sold for way too much money. I have seen idiots making 80m antenna's with just 2x10m's.....Also he doesn't talk about VSWR....as that is rubbish....wavelength and it works....Antenna's are not 50 Ohm...they are NOT!
