@tuan vandersluis Only because I was lucky, in what my parents chose to do, and because I went to a very good state school! Oh I also forgot to add that my interest in history was sparked by a bunch of American divers and archaeologists who stayed every year at a hotel owned by my parents in Yorkshire England. These guys were looking for the USS Bonne Homme Richard the ship that was sunk under John Paul Jones at the Battle of Flamborough head. One guy in particular was like a mentor to me, he taught History at UCLA. The other guys were no slouches in this area either. I was 12 when I first met them.

Take heed you millennial dipshits. This is what freedom looks like, and the sacrifice it took to get here. And this is your anti-fascist movement? Against the Constitution? You live in the freest country in the world. Get out of Mom's basement, stop playing video games, and rallying against people who voted for Trump. Grab a soup spoon, feed some homeless people, change your community. Act locally, not globally. You have no idea how to change the world, much less a political system. Your skulls are full of left-wing mush. Get yourself a passport and see how other people live. Saudi Arabia, Venezuela, Libya, Iraq, Russia, and see if your political views are tolerated there. Try paying eight dollars for a roll of toilet paper, like they do in Venezuela. God forbid you are denied a Starbucks.

'The patriots,' funny, if they tried this now they'd be decried as terrorists and white supremacists. Your country is besieged again. By real tyrants this time, not the hyped up tyranny you believed the Empire held but didn't. But you cannot overthrow them as they not only own you through your banking system, but they own your children's minds utterly. When you die from old age, fat and comfortable on your couch in front of your TV, it will be all over.

The revolution began long before the first shots were fired. The heavy hand of government reached far and wide enough to earn resentment anywhere it touched. The writings of the period reflect that disdain was the unifying force of the colonists not any one leader.

Bill of Rights exists no longer as the people believe in opposing political parties at each others throat. As per design by communists who have penetrated each and every level of govt. For the first time in history an entire planet gives up all rights for a "new" virus .one that has never been quatified by any govt agency. Propaganda has convinced "the people" that its either obey or the flu will kill you. All the sacrifice gone before establishing and maintaining our rights is for nought. I wonder why they don’t mention Benedict Arnold the most feared Colonial field officer of the early war . He was involved in taking Ticonderoga, invaded Canada, fought a brilliant rear guard action retreating from Canada. Was the a catalyst for the Victory at Saratoga.. In order to understand the magnitude of him going over to the British it’s important to understand his status. It would be like Patton going over to the .Germans. It not unusual for people to change sides in a civil war it is unusual for one of your sides greatest hero’s to do so. It’s important to remember many Americans were loyal to the King and viewed the rebels as traitors.

the 7 years war (french & indian) cost a fortune so the king imposed small taxes on the colonies which were the prime benefactors of the outcome... the tax resulted in a huge smuggling industry to circumvent the tax and the wealthy merchants used untaxed smuggled goods to undercut their competitors... john adams was one of those merchants dealing in illegal goods and they encouraged mobs to riot loot burn and attack british warehouses and officials.. once the taxes were lifted it cut into the smugglers profits and the boston tea party was smugglers dumping untaxed tea to retain their market...colonists enjoyed all the freedoms of english citizens but the wealthy merchanys & land owners wanted to be in charge so they created a crisis from which they would economically benefit...

Like no other time since the conclusion of the American Revolution are our people threatened with the desolation of the freedoms the forefathers fought so hard to establish. Our enemy on this occasion is from within our own people. Factions of those living within our borders, elected to office, and preaching the eradication of the Constitution and free enterprise have gained enough power, albeit the smallest margins, stand to topple our way of life, and every sacrifice Americans have made in history our long and storied history. We have a choice. The ballot to sustain our culture or succumb to powers outside the fabric of American daily life. That choice will be made in the November, 2020 election. This is a fight all freedom loving people is this country cannot afford to lose. Craig

The colonists rarely paid any taxes. They avoided most of the duty levied on some goods ,ignored the regulations of importing goods through British ports. And smuggled on an enormous scale. The courts and local assemblies were corrupt often refusing to pay the Crown’ s representatives unless they did as they were told. The colonies refused to help pay a small tax on tea to assist with the debts incurred by Britain in the French and Indian wars. They also had as much representation as the British people. When the colonists were offered MPs in Parliament they refused. General Howe was very easy on the rebels being a sympathiser and allowing Washington’s tattered remnants to escape more than once. Clinton was a better officer than Howe and had the war continued after Howe was sacked Clinton would have destroyed the rebels. There is no doubt that the French made the war very difficult for Britain . The rebels were not Americans they were rebellious Britons. Both sides were British. Without the French ,the rebels would have had no chance. Joining with France was particularly galling for Britain as a few years earlier Britain had defeated the French to the delight of the colonies,it was a treacherous act. The United States did not exist until after the war and took decades to establish herself. Britain went on to acquire a vast Empire, defeat Napoleon and bring world peace ,free from major conflicts ,for 100 years after Waterloo in 1815.

America has never answered yes to equality, or true democracy. We were afforded the opportunities to do so by our forefathers, but instead have allowed racism and fear to erode all of our liberties by constantly justifying the denial of liberty to some. We have allowed our Representation to be sold as a commodity, and anyone anywhere in the world now has the liberty to purchase our representatives provided they have the money. America has become a dystopian, divided, imperialistic oligarchy, of disenfranchised ill informed, and fearful people manipulated by hearsay, disinformation, and money, and religious voodoo. The historical and contemporary fact is that the American "experiment" is thus far an abject failure. Our elections have devolved into endless bullshit as well. Americans are limited to only two choices, and both Democrats and Republicans actually plot on the right of the political spectrum, and both parties are controlled entirely by big money. Furthermore, we invade, drone, and bomb countries all over the world constantly. I've personally been subjected to torture, wrongful imprisonment, forced to sign false statements, plead guilty to crimes that never happened, have been held own in my own house, handcuffed and then had my bones broken methodically. Our Healthcare is everything but. Ive awoken naked to find people with badges pointing guns at me, Ive been run over by cops on bicycle riding home with my groceries and thrown in jail. Ive been stopped and ID'ed and forced to be searched walking down the street in daylight and night, more times than I can count. Ive had cops simply steal my bicycle and other property numerous times. I could go on and on. Lets cut the dishonesty. The truth is that the idea and spirit of what America is supposed to be, has been entirely corrupted and nationalism is used to manipulate us. The "patriot" act is still being used to remove our liberties and manipulate us, while further enriching the oligarchs who own us entirely. I regret my service to this country greatly, because the hard truth, is that I served the interest of the oligarchs. It wasn't terrorists who broke my bones, robbed me, violated All of my "rights" repeatedly stolen my property and systemized me. It's not terrorist who have suborned our elections to big money and taken our representation. Now we are completely fucked, confused, divided, pissed off and scared. The entire world disdains us, abhors us, is afraid of us, distrusts us, and is largely exploited and manipulated by us. Americas true history is slavery, imperialism, war, civil war, worldwide atrocities, indigenous genocide, industrialized wars for the profit of the few, and mass industrialized imprisonment for the profit of a few. We have zero acceptable future existence opportunity. We are screwed entirely, and America is now far worse than just a failure, we are a threat and detriment to the very existence of all humanity worldwide, and Americans themselves are largely ignorant, demoralized, mislead, confused, frustrated, angry, and in poor health, and scared. Call it what you want, blaming it on whatever group of people your ideology demands, and or denying these realities altogether, will niether address nor assuage these issues which have already all but destroyed us.

An excellent video that hits the high points of the Revolution. Just an aside, but I have studied the subject of the Declaration of Independence very thoroughly and it is now almost 100% certain that Thomas Paine and not Thomas Jefferson was the true author of the document first ratified on July 2, 1776. I am glad that this video underlines the importance of Thomas Paine who not only gave his literary talents to the Revolution, but also acted as a military adjunct during the fighting and gave the profits of his pamphlets to the cause as well.

I take exception with the notion the revolutionary war was about no taxation without representation. If I have been instructed correctly Ben Franklin said it was because the colonists did not want to borrow their currency to function their economy with loans from the central bank of england with interest attached creating never ending debt to england. of course, the bankers eventually won anyway as we slaves work several months a year to hand over the proceeds of our labors to pay off the interest our government has accrued by borrowing money from the independently owned federal reserve that so helpfully loans us our money to operate our society with interest. when our treasury, directed by our congress as the u.s. constitution describes, should issue the currency necessary to operate our society much as the colonists were doing when the monarchial banksters interfered with arms. Much like our CIA does today on behalf of Wall Street when people try to oppose the central bank system such as Iran, Venezuela, Cuba and a few more nations demonized by our main stream media as members of an evil axis. we are the evil axis.

Now, what is totally true is the importance of the ideas brought by the American Independence (from people like Diderot, Voltaire or Rousseau) to the French revolution of 1789, these ideas would be shared to the rest of Europe by the armies of Napoleon and shape the democracies of the west we know today. So without the American Independence we may still be ruled autocratically.
