This only works for teams who have taught their academy players under the same philosophy for years. Right now the premiere league doesn’t have a team with the necessary infrastructure for them to be able to replicate Ajax.

Except indeed maybe man cty, they have a very good youth academy but unfortunately not enough balls to put them on their own pitch, instead they rent them out, a lot of which go to the Dutch Eredivisie cuz young players get the chance and education to play there.

Bergkamp left in december 2018. But he and Wim Jonk, did what Cruijff wantend to see. Sadly that Nouri couldnt make it and his tradegy messed the team up in 17/18 after the Euro League season. Nouri was the biggest talent, period. That midfield in 16/17 with vd Beek, Nouri and Frenkie was masterclass. But Ajax keeps develop Young players or keep scouting them and develop them. You win Some, You lose some and that’s the way it is for a club, out if a small league.

What they should be saying is how they are hugely ashamed they are of English clubs, stealing away the best players all over the globe with big money and not getting further than a young talent side. It's so dull, every time there's trouble at an English club, pundits are asked what should happen? "We'll they should bring in new players, bla bla bla" Yeah very easy and lazy if you have such a pile of money other countries cannot stack against. With the current rate players are switching between clubs I cannot take football serious anymore. Like the Watford, Udinese construction etc. Frankly i cannot even follow which player is transferred where anymore. In Belgium we call this a DOVECOT

When Cruijff was away from Ajax, youth players never got a chance either, that's why I for example have never been discovered, they only bought crazy eastern Europe players and put up body builders that didn't know how to play football. Cruijff would have never received a chance around 2006 either.

It won't. 1) EPL teams with the TV and broadcasting revenue and money, teams will always feel encouraged to spend to compete, whereas Ajax in a country of Netherlands, don't get as much revenue so they produce and develop their talents. 2) Not many English players, barely any at best are at the technical peak like Ziyech, De Jong, even as a defender De Ligt is technically gifted. These players are immensely talented who are ball players and love football in the essence it is to be played, whereas England promotes long ball football and most of their technical player at best are pace merchants. (Out of the English players even the top technically gifted players never reach top heights. The likes of Wilshere has immense talent but never reach massive levels. Maddison is the only English player I see now, who is footballing wise very very talented, and you can count players with such talent from England in one hand, while in other countries they thrive on technique and players who love to play football rather than physicality and pace, they focus on football as a core. Lastly, 3) English fans also need to stop overhyping any half decent youth product that comes through and hits a rich vein of form for 3-4 months. Along with the English media, fans overhype their home grown players when they have many holes in their game. People look at this Ajax team and heap praise because of their success but regardless of their success, players like Ziyech, De Ligt, De Jong (their whole squad) is filled with immense talent and their talent is just as good as anyone but yet they are just now getting the recognition. De Ligt and De Jong gets a lot of recognition (specially because De Jong going to Barca), but Ziyech who has been their best player for quite some time not only for the club but the Eredivise as a whole, the English media and football is just learning about him. While if anyone with half a decent level of Ziyech's abilities in England, the fans and media would overhype him to the point that they reach levels in fame that they don't deserve from the talent they possess. While the third problem can be judged as a tad superficial, until the first two problems are solved, I doubt England will value or promote their youth players (even foreign youth players that come to their country sometimes don't get enough game time).

No. EPL clubs have the right approach: buy great players and have a club in the last 4 CL nearly every year. Ajax has only been here after 22yrs. Also, Ajax (besides maybe Porto & Dinamo Kiev) is the only club to reach the CL football elite after the '96 Bosman arrest. The Ajax strategy wins hearts, but few trophies!

For mediocre teams in the PL it will be difficult to copy the Ajax way. Youngsters can only be thrown in when they grew up with the way of playing, Ajax is more also attractive with European football and a chance on winning titles each year as well as a reputation for being a great club to start your career.

What a nonsense. Ajax plays well now and they all want copy instant succes. Ajax probably will not do this again the next 20 years. This victory year will stay an incident as long as they do not do it year in year out and is not profitable for the big money clubs to copy. Just buy players that go through the ajax system this will earn more succes. You can not have it both ways. And I do not even mention the Coup by Cruyff that got rid of the business managers in the ajax board. And replacing them by former footballers. This dutch anti authority mentality of allways asking "why?" when getting an order is something that can not be copied and only pays out once in a while. And do not forget that ajax even in Holland is special. There are no other dutch clubs copying their succes. England is a war loving country;)), people need orders, they need big warriors to execute these in a direct way, straight balls and a lot of muscle. Dutch and English DNA is very very different.

The most astonishing thing about Ajax is that the last 5 years the most talented youngster have been 'stolen' at the age of 15 by the top CL clubs. Redan, TFM, Malen, Hoever, Redan, Familia-Castillo , Dilrosun, Adekanye ... to name a few. (same for PSV and Feyenoord youth btw) Not all succeed. I think they regret leaving Ajax now because they probably would be given a chance...

Reason premier league clubs cant do it is because they dont have that pedigree. Ajax are giants of football if you look at their past and the players that have come through out academy... which premier league team can even sniff at that quality.. Cruyff, van Basten, Rijkaard, Bergkamp, Suarez, Sneijder, Overmars, Seedorf, Davids, Kluivert it goes on and on... its a way of playing the game only Barca have that same pedigree because of Cruyff. Premier league teams there style of play changes with every coach.. Ajax tries to play that style of football, it doesnt always have the same results as sometimes you just dont have the talent and often talent gets purchased very quickly.. but the basis is there and every now and then something special happens.

clueless. southampton do this throughout their age groups, we teach them to play the same way as the first team. we give young players a chance and buy young players but unfortunately we can’t keep them and build something special. we then end up having a few bad seasons because of it and are only now starting to get back to where we were. of course managers play a big part in our downfall but now we have one that fits our philosophy perfectly.

Very clear view on the football. Premier League is still one of two best leagues in the World, and say what you will… the analyses they do there will give Tottenham a real fighting chance next week regardless, as they pick the opposition's strenght apart. All Ajax can do is be confident, enthousiastic and energetic. Let's see if that's enough for them...

Youth players will be more inclined to go to Ajax Youth acedemy instead of others. So no, there is no point in copying Ajax. It's in our DNA. Playing total football and giving chances. That is how Ajax will keep coming back. It might take another 22 years to have a team that reaches the semi/final, but we'll be there

Small chance. At Ajax there is inifnitely more opportunities for young players to develop. Developing players first get to get experience playing for Ajax 2 in the 2nd division, then they get to debut against one of the weaker teams in the Eredivisie. In the PL there is a lot more at stake every game, so it will always be safer to put a proven bought player in. It has been this way for a long time and the main reason the English national team is traditionally weak.

How do you change the culture of a population? Current Ajax-side is the same 'being' as it has been since the 70's. In one of its strongest shapes, indeed. Most people probably forgot the Ajax-sides under Frank De Boer. Weaker sides but still the same being. Ajax did not survive any groupstage but had a win and draw over modern Man City, a win over Barca, a draw while being better than PSG. A win over United in Europaleague.. They did not get through due to very unlucky scripts. One goal short when in the group of death. And in another season there was the seemingly corrupt win of O. Lyon over Zagreb and the 2 strangely disalowed goals vs Madrid. Before that Koeman's Ajax was very unfortunate in the quarters playing AC Milan. This all with lesser teams, but that is my point, Ajax is the biggest Giant-killer in CL history by some distance. Its a changing organism with the same soul and brain. When you play at Ajax it doesnt matter how old you are, 14, 17 or 33, you must play attractive football based on the Cruijff principles. You must also win. You are never the underdog. Not against PSV, but also not against Madrid. When you are not attacking you are not good enough. This is a culture. The demands are crazy high and maybe even unmatched by any other club. When M Jol's Ajax was destroyed and outplayed by Real, and Jol said: "but what do you expect of me with teenagers versus Real Madrid" he got sacked. Cruijff came down from the hills in Barcelona to brutally reform Ajax. And we are talking abt an Ajaxside that scored over a 100goals, with Suarez and only missed out on the championship by a goal. Understanding the power of Ajax is understanding the culture. The being, that Ajax is.

The problem is you need to invest in the youth academy, fix to 1 style of play. Willing to invest for 5 to 10 years before even 1 talent comes out of it. Basically throw away hundreds of youth players for just the few talents every few years. You need talented coaches to spot the talent, coaches with club commitment, using the right training methods. It is tough. The problem is not so much allowing a youth player time to play, you can easily bring somebody when you are 3-0 up or down. Also on trainings and friendly matches they can prove their value, maybe even league cup or FA cup. It will not happen anymore as no motivation exists to do it. Far more easy for a coach to say, buy that player. Aim for short term succes, get a offer from a bigger club and climb...

Agree with a lot that is said. But they forgot to mention that the culture of Ajax and their youth academy is one of a kind (and one of the best). This is not something you can replicate in a short term. Even within Ajax different views and arguments have been fought over the last couple of years, as in following the Cruijff or the Van Gaal wy of play. By the way, this debate caused Bergkamp to be fired last year, so he's not there. But all the other trainers are former Ajax players. You have to be brave if you want to change things. Be brave to give young players the chance to play AND to make mistakes. The management of Ajax (due to Marc Overmars) showed they were brave by raising the salaries for the first time, so that Ajax could attract and keep more the experienced players (Tadic, Blind, Ziyech). This was frowned upon by the Dutch media back then.
